Religious Easter crafts can be a great way to add an activity to a lesson or spend an afternoon as a family preparing for Easter. No matter what the age of your child or student, there is sure to be something that intrigues them.
Tin Foil Cross
This craft is perfect for children ages 4 - 8. This cross will serve as a reminder that Christ died for our sins.
Materials
- 1 piece of tin foil
- 2 feet of yarn
Instructions
- Cut a square piece of tin foil off of the roll. The larger the square, the larger the cross will be.
- Rip the tin foil in half to make 2 strips.
- Fold the two strips in half several times to make narrower strips.
- Arrange the two strips across each other in a cross shape.
- Cut a 2-foot length of yarn. Wrap the top of one of the strips around the center of the piece of yarn to attach it to the foil.
- Wrap the second strip of foil around the first to hold it in place.
- Pinch the cross all over to crinkle it up and define its shape.
- Tie a knot in the ends of the yarn to make a necklace loop.
Paper Angel
This pretty paper angel is a great craft for children ages 6 - 10. Use this craft as a platform to teach children about the importance of angels, and how the angel visited Mary when she went to the tomb of Jesus and told her to deliver the message that He had risen.
Materials
- Blue construction paper
- White construction paper
- Pencil
- Scissors
- Craft glue
- Yarn in desired hair color
Instructions
- Cut the sheet of blue paper in half. Roll the paper into a tube and glue it together. This will be the base for the angel.
- On the white paper, draw an angel's face, shirt, and arms. This could be done ahead of time for younger children. Cut the angel out and glue it to the top of the base. The bottom of the base will serve as the angel's skirt.
- Draw a pair of angel wings on the white paper and cut them out. Glue the wings to the base behind the angel's shoulders.
- Cut several pieces of yarn to use as hair. Glue the hair to the top of the angel's head.
Beaded Cross
Kids ages 6 - 12 will enjoy making this beaded cross. Each color bead reminds of us something. Yellow is for God's glory, black is for our sin, blue is for what makes us turn from sin, red is for the blood of Jesus, white is for justification, and green is for the growth of our Christian life.
Materials
- 1 plastic bead of each of the following colors: yellow, black, blue, red, white, and green.
- 2 feet of yarn
- 2 blunt plastic yarn needles
Instructions
- Thread the yellow bead onto the yarn and pull it to the center.
- Thread a needle onto each end of the the yarn.
- Push both needles through the black bead. Pull the yarn tightly so the black bead rests on top of the yellow bead.
- Pull one needle through the blue bead and the other through the blue bead in the opposite direction. Pull tightly so the blue bead rests on top of the black.
- Thread a red bead on the right side needle. Pull the bead down to touch the blue bead then thread the yarn back through the blue bead. Repeat on the opposite side of the blue bead with the white bead.
- Thread one of the needles through the green bead and the other through the same bead from the opposite direction.
- Tie an overhand knot at the top of the green bead to hold all the beads in place. Pull the needles off the yarn and tie the ends together to make a necklace loop.
Donkey Scripture Card
This craft is appropriate for children ages 8 - 12. The card will help with scripture memorization and is a good teaching platform for a lesson about Palm Sunday.
Materials
- 1 piece of construction paper
- Black marker
- Scissors
- 2 mini clothespins
- Yarn
- Glue
Instructions
- Draw a donkey shape without legs or a tail on a piece of paper. This could be done ahead of time for younger kids.
- Cut the shape of the donkey out. Write down a piece of Easter scripture on the donkey's body. Write the book and verse of the scripture on the clothespins.
- Clip the clothespins on to the donkey to serve as its legs. Draw a face on the donkey with the marker.
- Cut a few pieces of yarn and glue them to the back of the donkey to serve as its tail.
Crown of Thorns of Bracelet
This bracelet craft is suitable for kids ages 10 - 15 and is a reminder of the suffering that Jesus went through when He died on the cross for our sins.
Materials
- Craft wire
- Scissors
- Brown Cord
Instructions
- Cut three pieces of craft wire to measure about 6-inches long each.
- Hold the three pieces of wire together. Wrap one end of one piece of wire around the other three to hold them together.
- Braid the three strands of wire together loosely until you have reached a spot about two inches from their ends.
- Wrap the end of one piece of wire around the other two to hold the braid together. Cut the ends of the wire off.
- Cut five pieces of brown cord to each measure two inches long. Tie the pieces onto the bracelet evenly spaced around. These will be the thorns of the crown. Use scissors to cut the ends of the knots so the cord looks like thorns.
- Tightly wrap brown cord over the ends of the bracelet to cover the ends of the wire. Tie the cord to secure it in place.
- To wear the bracelet curl it over your wrist like a cuff. The ends are not meant to be joined together.
