If you're a parent, you probably have several boxes of broken crayons around your home that can be turned into great crayon melting art projects. In less than an hour, you can turn old crayons into customized drawing utensils that are perfect for any occasion. Make snowflakes for Christmas, hearts for Valentine's Day, or orange pumpkin crayons to celebrate Halloween. The possibilities are endless!

Getting Started

To begin, gather bits of broken crayons in assorted colors from the crayon boxes around your house. It doesn't matter if they are all the same brand or how old the pieces are. When they are melted, you won't be able to tell the difference.

Remove the Wrappers

Remove the wrappers from the crayons. This is the most time consuming part of the project, so be prepared to help your child with this job as needed.

Fill the Pan

Fill a silicone baking pan with crayon bits. Add random colors for an eclectic look or mix together different shades of similar colors for a more uniform appearance.

Melt the Wax

Place the pan on a cookie sheet to catch drips. Bake in a 250 degree oven for approximately 10-12 minutes until crayons are completely melted. Carefully remove the tray. Allow the hot wax to cool.

Enjoy Your Creation
